You may wonder, "What does 'A Black Ball Day' mean? (Any surfer could tell you.)
Notice the sign with the large dot on the lifeguard tower (the 'black ball'). To a surfer, this is not a good thing; because it means no surfing there that day.
That is why these beach chairs are empty...and so are many others you cannot see; because they're out in the water. The result?
Too many swimmers, which = black ball sign = no surfing = bummer for surfers!
